Sailing on a boat is one of the most enjoyable experiences one can have, but it is important to protect yourself from the elements to fully enjoy it. The sun, rain, wind, and heat can make a day of sailing unpleasant. The sun can cause sunburns, burns, and even long-term skin damage. By protecting yourself under a bimini, you can avoid these health issues and enjoy sailing safely.

A bimini is a sunshade made of waterproof fabric attached to a stainless steel frame of hoops. Its attachment is removable; however, few users dismantle the bimini, preferring to remove the fabric in winter and fold it towards the back of the boat. Care is taken to ensure that the tubes do not rub against each other or against the boat's gelcoat. During the season, when not in use, the bimini can also be folded back, but its fabric will be protected inside a zipped cover.
The superior quality of a bimini can be recognized by several features:
- All sleeves, at least 2, usually 3, and many more for very large biminis, are equipped with zippers, allowing the fabric to be removed without unscrewing the bimini to slide the tubes into the fabric sleeves.
- The starting points of the seams for the sleeves are reinforced by a sandwich of acrylic fabric containing a textile membrane that gives rigidity to these highly stressed parts.
- The thread is UV-treated.
- The acrylic fabric is coated, meaning it has fabric on the outside and this fabric has a coating on the inside. This gives it a Schmerber rating of 1200mm, which is the amount of water over 24 hours required to penetrate the fabric.
- The cuts are made digitally to ensure a perfect cutting line.
