Are you the owner of a sailboat? Do you want to keep your mainsail in perfect condition for as long as possible? To achieve this, the best solution is to protect it as soon as you lower it with a custom mainsail cover. SNA, a specialist in marine upholstery and protective fabrics for boats, provides you with a quality mainsail cover perfectly adapted to your sailboat, within three days.

What is a mainsail cover for?

A mainsail cover is a protection made of waterproof but breathable fabric, resistant to the sun. The mainsail cover ensures the protection of the mainsail when it is lowered. It protects it from:

• The sun, which deteriorates the fabric fibers
• The wind, which makes it flutter and crease, accelerating its wear
• Water and salt
• Dirt: sand, dust, bird droppings…

The mainsail cover is therefore installed when not sailing (at the dock, at anchor, during winter storage…) or during motoring phases. This cover significantly extends the lifespan of the mainsail, which is already heavily used on a sailboat.

How to choose the right mainsail cover?

To be effective and protect the entire mainsail, mainsail covers must cover the boom that supports the mainsail and surround the mast at the gooseneck. The mainsail cover thus protects the mainsail fabric as well as all its accessories: headboard, battens, reefing points…

There are different types of mainsail covers. A mainsail cover can be made in one piece with an opening system, most often a zipper, fixed simultaneously around the boom and the mast. There are also two-piece mainsail covers, with one cover dedicated to protecting the boom and another cover that must be attached at the junction of the boom and the mast. Note that this type of cover is less effective and takes longer to install than one-piece covers.

Custom mainsail covers by SNA

To be sure of getting a cover that perfectly protects your mainsail, it is wise to opt for custom-made. That is why SNA has developed a unique manufacturing process by industrializing custom work. This made-to-order and stock-free manufacturing method allows us to produce and ship our custom mainsail covers within three days.

For this, SNA digitally designs and cuts the fabric pieces of the mainsail cover based on a measurement form filled out by you. This form requires simple information such as:

• The length of the boom
• The circumference of the mast
• The circumference below the boom once the sail is furled
• …

The fabric pieces are then hand-sewn in our workshops in Sarzeau, Brittany, and the cover’s accessories are added: closure system, straps, reinforcements…

Good to know: to guarantee perfect protection of your mainsail, SNA uses Sunbrella 100% acrylic fabric for all its covers, a material that is:

• Waterproof
• Breathable
• Treated against UV rays
• Treated against mildew

Don’t wait any longer to protect your mainsail! Equip your sailboat without delay with a custom mainsail cover from SNA.
